Frequently Asked Questions
Short, clear answers to help you understand how yoga therapy works and how we’ll tailor it to your needs.
What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga therapy is a personalized, evidence‑informed approach that uses breathwork, gentle movement, rest, and nervous system education to support your specific goals—such as mobility, balance, stress relief, pain modulation, and confidence. Sessions are adapted to your body, your life, and your pace.
So are you basically a yoga teacher?
A yoga therapist is different from a general yoga teacher. As a C‑IAYT (Certified Yoga Therapist), I completed extensive clinical training focused on adapting yoga tools for health conditions and collaborating within care teams. We’ll co‑create simple, realistic practices tailored to your needs.
How is yoga therapy different from a yoga class?
Yoga classes are designed for groups and a general sequence. Yoga therapy is one‑on‑one and individualized. We start with a conversation about what you’re noticing and what you want more of—ease, strength, confidence—then choose one or two doable steps and a short home practice (often 5–15 minutes).
Who is yoga therapy for?
I work with people of all ages and many health backgrounds. Clinical experience includes Parkinson’s disease (PD), functional neurological disorder (FND/FMD), dysautonomia (incl. POTS), dystonia, chronic pain (incl. CRPS), hypermobility/Ehlers‑Danlos (EDS), scoliosis, vestibular challenges and PPPD, anxiety and stress, depression, and long‑haul fatigue/long‑COVID.
Do I need yoga experience or to be flexible?
No. You don’t need prior yoga experience or any particular level of flexibility or fitness. We’ll adapt postures, breathwork, and rest to your current capacity—seated, standing, or even reclined—so it feels safe, clear, and doable.
What happens in a typical session?
We’ll check in about your goals and how you’re feeling, then gently explore breath, mindful movement, balance or gait work as appropriate, and guided rest. You’ll leave with a simple home plan and short video(s) to keep. We progress gradually at your pace, in person or online.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies by person and goals. Many people begin with 3–6 sessions to establish a foundation and home practice. Some prefer ongoing support monthly or seasonally. We’ll discuss a plan that matches your needs and adjust as you go.
Do you coordinate with my healthcare providers?
Yes—when helpful and with your consent. I regularly collaborate with physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other providers to align your plan and keep it realistic and clear.
Do you take insurance? Can I use HSA/FSA?
Yoga therapy isn’t typically covered by insurance. I can provide invoices/receipts; some clients use HSA/FSA depending on their plan’s rules. Please check with your provider for eligibility.
Where do sessions take place?
I work with clients in person across California—primarily Los Angeles and Ventura counties—and also offer sessions a few times a year in Costa Rica. If you’re not nearby, we can meet online from anywhere.
What should I wear or bring?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement. A mat and a chair are helpful; we can also use household items like pillows or towels. If we’re working on balance, a clear wall space or countertop can be useful.
How do I get started?
You can book a session online or request a short discovery call to see if it’s a good fit for your goals.
